[Instead of picking a random building to stay in like everyone else, wizard!Asch has decided to put up a tent. No, seriously; his wand is out, and he's enchanted some tent materials to put themselves together at a place by the stream. Satisfied with his handiwork, Asch enters the tent and...]

[...is that a television playing inside? Scratch that, is that a video game playing inside?!]

[Anise, the busybody that she is, is hurrying back from the grocery store with a bag filled with all kinds of foodstuffs. Catching movement out of the corner of her eyes, Anise stops and stares in amazement at the display of materials weaving and working to fix themselves. Her mouth hangs a little open and she very nearly drops her bag. Sure she saw some of the stuff this Asch could do already, but still!

Plus, what were those weird sounds coming from within? It sounded like music...or something of the like. Anise creeps closer, hoping to see more cool things this Asch could (literally) conjure up with that little stick of his.]

[The closer Anise gets, the more distinct the sounds from inside are... and in fact, what's being said probably sounds familiar...]

Duke prefers much younger, cuter girls, don't you Duke? You can call off that silly engagement any time.

Excuse me?!

What?!

Duke, you're despicable.

What?! Like this is my fault?!

It's nice to see you all getting along so well.

Are you blind?!

[What's probably more disturbing is Asch started snickering at the antics from... whatever it is that's playing.]

[That...certainly did sound familiar. Very familiar. It may have been months since that conversation was had, but it still flipped a switch in the back of Anise's mind. It was the first time she met Natalia...when she was a stubborn, spoiled, bossy little bitch of a princess. Anise had hated her back then, and was glad she changed during the journey. They had all changed.

Curious more than ever, Anise pushes back the flap to the entrance of the tent and glances inside.]

Asch?

[Asch was sprawled out on the ground, legs dangling up in the air. He was holding a controller hooked up to a black box, with a television screen playing a familiar scene... only "Luke" and "Asch" had black hair on the screen instead of red.]

[On top of all that, the little tent was much larger on the inside, and had all the trappings of a hotel suite, complete with silk drapes and large king sized bed.]

[Asch's head jerked up at Anise, his face going white.]

A-Anise?!

[Asch is the first one Anise sees, but before she can say hello, Anise's jaw drops at the sheer size of the inside of the tent. She pulls back, looking at the outside of the tiny tent, then back inside. It just...wow. WOW! That little magic stick is really something! And damn does he do a good job with it.

She steps inside, immediately standing fully erect in the spacious inside. This is just--]

Whoa! Asch, did you do all this yourself?! This is amazing! Do you have a kitchen in here, too?! What's that this? [She scampers up to the TV, staring...staring...those two people look familiar.]

[There's a kitchen off the way, behind the massive dresser, but Asch is more concerned about the fact that Anise is oogling the TV. The cut scene is over, and the game is paused on Duke hunched over, looking sick.]

I... Uh... I-it's just a little muggle thing...

[The only real reason Anise was ogling the television was mostly because she's never really seen one before. Sure, the monitors and stuff in Belkend and Sheridan were neat, but this thing looked amazing! Plus, with the images on screen, and how familiar it all looks...she's a bit preoccupied.]

But what is it? [She stares at the images, and even touches a few of her fingers onto the warm screen, over the paused picture.] Is that...?

Oh... it's a television. Muggles use it to watch programs broadcasted from a station. I just have it hooked up to my game system.

[He held up a case marked, "Fables of the Underground". It had a short, black-haired boy, a large breasted girl with blonde hair, a fuzzy pink thing, and other characters... as well as a small girl in pale blue and auburn hair in pig tales.]

Television...? So is it some kind of fontech thing? And what the heck is a muggle, anyway? It sounds like some kind of monster.

[Anise sounds it out, prodding some of the buttons - oops, did she just shut it off? Well, it's back on in another second - then she moves to peer at the game system. Thankfully, the buttons on that are harder to see, so she won't be pushing them. Plus, there's a new distraction, too.]

Hey, that looks kind of like me!

Oh... muggles are non-magical people. 'Normal' folk.

[Asch paused a moment at that, looking between Anise and the cover, blinking in confusion.]

...hey, you do look like Claris...

[Huh. 'Non-magical' people. Was she one of those muggle things? Anise knew fonic artes, which were like magic, after all. Besides, that term seemed almost derogatory in a way. It better not be some kind of insult!

But suddenly, distraction! Anise peers at the game cover, then puts on a little smirk.]

But I'm much cuter, right~?

[...forgive Asch, he just had a wtf moment. He looks between Anise and "Claris" on the cover, frowning.]

...weird... Claris says that to Duke when she hits on him...

[Anise just barely catches that, and frowns. This is becoming a bit too coincidental for her liking. Plus, all those other characters and such on the cover of that thing looks like people she knew! And "Duke"? Come on, that's just too easy to catch.]

...So, what's this game about, anyway?

Well, it's kind of complicated. This noble finds out he's not really who he thought he was, and there's this whole thing where the land is falling, and...

[Sound familiar?]

[Too familiar.]

That...that sounds like what happened in Auldrant. Exactly like it. -B-But that can't be. It's just a coincidence, right? A really, really weird coincidence.]

Hunh? It's... just a game, you know.

I-I know that, but still! It's just...just a lot like the journey me and my friends took on. Or at least sounds like it. Plus, all those characters look a lot like my friends, too. ...Kind of.

[Asch looked back at the cover again, blinking. Really, he didn't get it... poor clueless bastard.]

[...Oh, for the love of Hod.] You're really not the sharpest tool in the cupboard, are you, Asch? But tell if there's a military person in the game, and a princess, and if Lu--Duke's best friend is afraid of women, and if they travel around with someone else - the head of a religious organization. Oh, and I bet there's a squeaky animal thing that Duke kicks around, right?

...Oh, so you've played this before?

[OH, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING. How dense can one person get?!]

No, you moron! This game thing shadows everything that happened it my world! It's like a duplicate copy of...of everything that happened in real life back in my world! That game is my reality!

[Why...why does that sting so much? It almost felt like someone was making fun of all the terrible things they had to endure throughout the journey. Do people actually get enjoyment from something like that?]

[Asch fell over on his ass at the force of her shouting, staring at her with wide eyes. His mouth worked, trying to find something to say.]

W-well... i-it's not like I'm the one that made it...

[Fuming - for a reason Anise can't yet place - she glares down at Asch until he speaks up, and...he's right. He's right and she shouldn't have exploded at him. It was just...a different reality. This wasn't her Asch, after all. Or even close to it, like some others. So she just slumps, feeling guilty.]

I-I know...sorry. I guess it's just kind of frustrating, having something like that summed up as just a game.

[Asch blinked, sitting back upright. He hesitated a moment, before hesitantly reaching up and giving her hand a squeeze.]

Hey, uh... it'll be okay, you know.

[Anise took a moment to recollect herself, staring first to their joined hands, then to Asch. This is just so bizarre, having Asch be anything but a monster to her. It was...nice; comforting even, and put a gentle smile on Anise's face.]

Thanks, Asch... Mind if I watch for a while?
