....can I at least say I'll do my best to help you? And I don't think I would want my promise to transfer to him, because that would mean you'd have to hurt him if he wouldn't help.

I would only be forced to. [implying he would hurt Asch anyway if he didn't want to help] And doing your best... is a nebulous promise. You can't say for certain if it was being done, or if you could do better.

No one would abide by another family coming to rule... but they remembered how beloved Natalia was. How beautiful she was, despite... no, because she wasn't royal blood. They chose an unlanded noble... and for decades after, when the current King or Queen passed away, the Monarch chose who he or she thought was best. Not from the family, but who proved to rule. It may have changed since I was last there, but that was the framework.

[ smiles to herself. ] She would have approved of such a system. It's to Baticul's benefit that they continued to look outside of the royal family for leadership. I'm glad they decided on a system based on who a person is, not what they are.

I wonder what sort of future they would have had if the new King or Queen had been Natalia and my child.
