You know, this place is more obnoxious than a New York subway station some days. Nothin' but people with things they shouldn't have. Cripes. [ this would be Luke, playing bartender. he's irritated, but feel free to come by and ask him to make you something! ]

[ blinks ] ... [ peers over the countertop ] What's what mean, kidlet?

What's a New York subway station?

...Ahm, an underground train network.

Oh.

...What are you doing?

Making myself a drink. Would you like something? ...I can't serve you liquor, but I can make an Italian soda or something.

What's an Italian soda?

Sparkling mineral water, half and half, and a flavored syrup. Sweet bubbly drink.

That sounds good... I want to try it.

I'll make you one. What's your favorite fruit?

Um... Strawberry?

[ smirks ] Good choice. Pull up a stool if you like. [ mixes the sparkling water and the half and half in a cup to the side, fills a glass with ice and some strawberry syrup, combines them. pops a straw in the glass and sets one of those cutesy little cocktail umbrellas in it and slides it toward him ]

[sits on one of the stools, looking at the drink] ...Why does it have an umbrella?

[ laughs ] It's a decoration. You can play with it.

I can?

[ nods ]

It's cool... I like it. [still just examining the drink]

[ snickers ] You're allowed to drink the thing, you know. [ sips at his own, not kid-friendly drink ]

But it's nice to look at.

[ snerk ] Suppose you don't have to. [ shrugs ]

...What's your drink? [finally takes a sip of his own]

It's called a Tom Collins. Not kid-friendly, 's got Gin in it.

I've had wine before.

Gin is stronger than wine, and wine is generally perceived as acceptable with a parent or legal guardian's consent.

So... I can't try some?

[ makes a face ] ... [ slides the drink toward him ] Just a little, Gin is strong.
