[ pulls out a tall glass and pours the concoction into it, sticks a little cocktail umbrella into it, and slides it toward... him? her? they? ]

[ it's hard to tell with the kids. smiles faintly when he takes it, going back to sipping at his Tom Collins ]

[drinks it, smiling] What's wrong?

[ glances over his drink and shakes his head ] Mm, nothing. Why do you ask?

Humans rarely grouse about annoyance and imbibe alcohol at the same time without something being wrong. Unless they do so on a regular basis and cannot function without getting drunk.

[ narrows his eyes slightly, sipping at his drink again ] Vampire attacked someone close to me. I'm sick of the rat bastards.

[lowers his own drink] Vampires are... some of the most frustrating beings. They cannot die conventional means, but at their core they are guided by the same instincts a human does, only they are forced to feel the needs far more sharply than their human counterparts. Their souls are bound by this, and are often irretrievable due to the strain the infection brings.

Frustrating is putting it mildly, kidlet.

Retrieving those souls were often a lost cause. Even if they held onto their humanity... no, those were often the worst. They still had a soul, but it was impossible to send it on whole. [drinks] ... even death wasn't the release it should have been for their pain.

I honestly don't give a shit about their 'pain'. Maybe if they'd quit acting like they were entitled to suck unsuspecting people's blood-- particularly so of a kid that's not usually a girl and is trying her damnedest to deal with that whole monthly thing they go through-- I'd have a little more compassion. Frankly I'd like to lace my mags with the cure that idiot Dist came up with and put six bullets in every last one of their brains.

Then perhaps I should have reaped every last human that indulged in their instinct to eat and pass on their genes. You act so entitled to a meal and sex.

I'm entitled to neither, and I know that. Life in general is a privilege. Replicas know that better than most. I'm just not about to pass up decent opportunities when they present themselves to me. If a person offered themselves to a vampire then that's fine, but it's the fact that they chase and hunt people down when they know they're not wanted. If they're so pitiful maybe I'd be putting them out of their misery.

Then you're a vegetarian? You don't eat the meat of animals that were chased down and hunted?

It's a little different when it's an animal raised for that and when it's a human being. Animals haven't been chased for their meat in years, they're raised in captivity and killed in as humane a way as possible. There's nothing humane about the actions of a vampire. You can kill a human, you can kill an animal. These creatures regenerate by feeding off other people. They're nothing more than parasites.

"Humane"? How hypocritical. The animals from farms were the worst. Brought up to believe they were safe, then killed by the one they trusted. And not slowly. At least an animal from a hunt is clean.

You give them too much credit. An animal's brain lacks the capacity to trust, just as it lacks the capacity to be spiteful to one who broke that trust.

And I'm sure your poor precious animals that are so jaded by trusting their loving, caring farm owners that killed them are so much worse off than a person who was hunted by another. I can give them a little credit if they were turned against their will, but not enough to forgive them or to pity them.

... how shallow. [puts his empty glass down] If I was still in control of my full powers, I would make you feel what those animals feel before they die. Then what the hunted feel, then what a vampire feels. A vampire's victim has a chance to heal this damage quickly. Fifty, sixty years... about as long as any minor trauma. A soldier in the middle of a war takes centuries. A farm animal takes just as long. A hunted animal takes a little less, and are perhaps more delicious than a penned one. A vampire, if ever, takes thousands of years due to their own struggles, not to mention the wounds idiots such as yourself inflict.

[looks up at him] Do not pretend you can pass judgment on any being. You can live your life as you choose, wounding the souls of who you wish to continue your own pathetic life. But do not judge another for doing the same when they are struggling to keep themselves from becoming the monster you think they are. You, perhaps, are more a monster than they are. They accept what they do as monstrous. You don't.

[ rolls his eyes a little ] You're no more qualified to pass judgment than I am, kid. Something that's dead means nothing to someone who's alive, much less does it's soul. Maybe I'm a monster for thinking that way, but I'm no less a monster than something that forces other people into suffering for its own benefit. And I'm sure you'll argue that a farmer who kills its livestock to eat or a butcher that kills the same to be sent off to a supermarket is the same, but that's part of a natural food chain. There's nothing natural about a fucking mythical creature that shouldn't exist in the first place. If they were struggling so hard to keep themselves from being monsters, then they wouldn't be monsters.

[ idly wipes down the counter ] Now get the hell out of my bar.

[slams his hands down] You are just as unnatural as they are! And you obviously don't understand what I say. If they don't struggle to be monsters, they give into their instincts. Do you wish to be around a vampire that has given in? You'd be dead before your hand touched that silly weapon of yours.

They are not unnatural. Only the arrogance of humans spread that rumor, that only humans should be the top of the food chain. They are your predator, to keep you humble. Obviously, humanity is too stupid to understand that.

[ just gives him a bland look ] Then I suppose I'm quite happy in my stupidity and my ignorance. Vampires are nothing but creatures in storybooks as far as I'm concerned, they have no place chasing down and attacking the people I care for.

And obviously you don't understand me. I told you to get out.

It's viewpoints as such that make them lose the struggle.

... I've been human for far too long. I feel sorry for the underdog.
