[Mod Post] Opinion time!!
Goooooood evening/morning/afternoon,
abyssdressing! It's time for a pop qui-
Huh? Wait, what? Oh, crap, wrong cards? Which one was this, then? Oh right, right. It's time for an opinion post! On today'sor this month's/this year's/whatever's agenda, we have two (I lied!) three things for you to give your opinion on!
Thing the First
So, I'm finally getting off my butt and doing something I meant to do about two or three years ago. What's that? Why, putting together a layout for Abyss Dressing Room, of course. Don't get your hopes up, it's not super special awesome or antyhing like that. But it is a clean, flexible-width layout that can technically be customized quickly and in numerous combinations. Or something.
So today I bring you a mockup of the layout before I start coding anything. Why do I do this? Because I want your input!
Wait, what that? What do you mean that's annoying to read and you can't really get a good feel for it? ...Oh, fine. Have a clean version of it, too.
Anyway, as my version with my notes implies, I don't really know what to put in the header. This only gets harder to figure out when you consider it will stretch across the entire page, so it'd either need to be something that tiles perfectly or that doesn't cut off awkwardly on at least one side (right or left). On the other hand, I could also nix most of it and leave just the navigation links.
The rest of it is pretty set, except the link color throughout the page; I kind of just plopped that turquoise there because I love the color, but if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to voice them.
Yes, I made the crappy userheads. A few years ago, actually. And yes, the userheads are totally staying. Even if my inner Asch glares forever. Besides, it's either the demon face or I'd make a cheagle.
Thing the Second
Also, an idea I've been toying with suggesting - actually, this is another thing I wanted to suggest, oh, about two or three years ago. Have you ever wanted to go back and read threads your character has been a part of but can't quite remember which posts your character has actually commented in? Or am I the only one who does this? Well, I was thinking, what if we (optionally, of course) add our characters' usernames to a post's tags when we comment?
This may seem counterintuitive with the idea of, "Well, what if we want to find just the posts the character has started?" but... apparently LiveJournal added a system for that a few months back: add ?poster=[username] to the community address and you'll get that user's posts. For example, if I wanted to get every post
scionofhispower has ever made to
abyssdressing, I'd go to the address http://community.livejournal.com/abyssdressing/?poster=scionofhispower and voila! All of my Asch-hole's posts in one place. Now, granted, this isn't quite as easy as just clicking on the character's tag and having his or her posts pop up since you'd have to type the filter in yourself...
But anyway, yeah. I figured I'd check to see what people's thoughts on doing this were. Any thoughts on whether you'd be in favor of people doing things this way to make finding their threads again a little easier? Or would you prefer to just let things stay as they are now?
Thing the Third
Otherwise known as Josie and Sol have very bad memories and short attention spans.
Anyway. An idea we've tossed around: what if, rather than all posts having to take place in ye olde nexus, you could make posts from wherever you want. It could still be in the nexus world here, or it could be in your character's Auldrant (or home world if he/she is an AU from a different world. *cough*Metalhead*cough*). Or it could be somewhere else entirely, even.
But wait, you might be thinking. How does that work? How would these characters get to each other?
Blame Lorelei. Yes. Everything is Lorelei's fault. Lorelei will throw you into other people's worlds just for shits and giggles.
No, really, IDK. Maybe your character opened a door and suddenly wound up in someone else's Auldrant because the dressing room is still connecting everything together, just... differently.
But, obviously, we want opinions here, too. We're not just going to throw this onto people.
So. Yeah.
Opinions. You've got them, right?
