In my world, Koga's fonons were separating due to the effects of an assault on him. It was only a matter of time before he ceases to exist.

I was brought here during the practice of vows.

No. Not at all. We just found them when... either way, Professor Neis was captured, but it took a while for Koga to actually trust me. He doesn't even trust anyone else.

How do I put this...

The Koga you see here is different from the Koga in my world. Here, he is a bundle of affection and joy. In my world, he's secluded and disdainful. He doesn't like letting anyone seeing him when he shows affection, which is rare on its own, so he makes me look for him.
