Many things. Core curriculum consists of basic Arithmetic, Science, English and History. As you move up in grades more choices open up in each of the aforementioned fields-- Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Foreign Languages, Linguistics, History of other countries, World History... Advanced Placement classes... Additionally, art and music classes, as well as shop and things that don't quite fit into the core curriculum are referred to as electives.

Well the school year lasts nine months, and most people take seven to eight classes over the course of each year. With a total of twelve years if one carries out a full school career without dropping out at sixteen...
