[ considers the stomped out cigarette for a while before turning to look at her ] ... It's kind of a long story.

Well I have all the time in the world while I'm here. I'm willing to listen if you're willing to tell me.

[ gives her a sort of hopeless look, smiling faintly and shaking his head. he scoots over on the bench, patting the planks beside him ] Sit, then.

*she comes to sit beside him and waits patiently*

[ regards her for a long moment, leaning on the arm of the bench ] ... For what it's worth, I'm sorry I've turned out like this.

...*frowns slightly, gently taking his hand, holding it*

[ glances at their hands, then raises an eyebrow ] ... It's not your fault by any stretch, so don't think that. I just got one too many runs through the ringer and I've turned out a little screwed up in the general cranium area. [ taps the side of his head ]

Luke...*now you've made mother worried* What have you been up to?

Quite a bit, really. [ extracts the pack of cigarettes from his pocket and shakes it ] This is about the worst of it, I think. It mostly involves being jerked around from place to place and never sitting still long enough to think about anything.

Ah...hm. *extends her hand out, wanting to take the pack from him* Evenso, maybe this will be one less thing to be bother with...?

... [ sets it in her hand with a shrug ] It's not that easy. I've been smoking for over a year now, chances are I'll find another pack and not even realize I'm smoking them.

Luke. *orz, she has a feeling this isn't her Luke, but she's still VERY concerned for him* ... *sighs, running her hand through his hair* If you must...but please not in front of me.

10-4. [ doesn't reclaim the pack from her hands ]

*blinks* 10....4?

.. [ blinks ] Ah. It's an affirmative code. We used it at the shop.

*blinks, something new?* You...are working at a shop?

...Car shop in New York, yeah. Asch insisted I live in his apartment with him so I'm actually staying put for once... [ shakes his head a little ]

hm...? *what are these...foreign words you speak off to mother*

[ blinks. ...looks her over. ] ... I work with a modern fontech known as automobiles in a city called New York, mom.

O-Oh, fontech...

I wasn't, really. But, Chris thought I'd be good at it, so he wouldn't let me give up until I was good. It makes good money, gets me around, keeps me fed. [ shrugs lightly ]
