[ It appears someone has set up some training dummies on a certain couple's lawn. Who would do a thing like that? Why, Asch would, that's who. It would appear his intentions are to get some training in; far be it from him to let his fighting skills get rusty.

This means he is in plain sight of anyone who happens to have come out this way. Just be careful about sneaking up on him or anything like that. Why? Because apparently Asch doesn't practice with wooden swords; he's using a recently sharpened blade.

This said, he probably won't actually stab anyone even if they don't announce their presence. But he might come close to it.

Hey, it's not his fault he's not expecting any visitors. ]

[ Hey, look! Here's a spacy Luke for you. He's just walking past the house, staring at his hand blankly. Had it really disappeared again just now, or was that his imagination? Either way, he could feel he didn't have much time left. His body was getting weaker every day... ]

[Hey there, it's the derpkid. Been settling in rather well at the inn over the past couple weeks, though it's no fun being by yourself. He's been trying to acquire a new sword as well, seeing as it feels so weird to be without one, but both his old one and the spares they had were left in the item bag in Chesedonia he'd been dragged here without.

But back to the "no fun being by yourself" part - because of it, he's taken to walking the streets and surrounding areas of ye olde nexus, and therefore spots Asch's sword training. And hey - it's that older Asch, the one who's actually nice. So he's just going to stop and watch for a while. Maybe it'll stand in for practice until he can get an actual sword again.]

[ The noise gains Asch's attention; unfortunately, it gains his attention in a bad way. He turns sword-first toward the knocked-over dummy...

...and his blade stops just inches from Luke's neck. ]

...Replica.

[ And he just stares at the blade that's THAT CLOSE to his neck, pale and heart racing. ]

[ And the voice behind him... oh lovely. ] S-Sorry...! I can set it back up...!

[ Can he go cry, now? ]

[ It takes a bit - and a fair few destroyed dummies those poor dummies - for Asch to realize there's someone watching him. Or maybe he noticed from the start and just didn't feel it was necessary to interrupt his training to say something to someone who's clearly just watching. It's difficult to tell with him sometimes.

However, he does eventually turn toward Luke, shifting his sword downward as he raises an eyebrow. ] If your method of improvement is to just watch others train, that might explain why your skills were always lacking.

[ It says something that Asch actually stops before following through on an attack when he hears a noise from behind himself while training - after all, while training, he's usually in full battle mentality. Years ago, he might not have stopped himself.

He watches Luke for a few moments before withdrawing his blade. ] It's fine; it would have just ended up that way soon enough, anyway.

[ Replica heads for sale! Freshly cut! ]

[ Luke let out a relieved sigh, gripping his jacket over his heart and turning to face him. ... Wait, what? He stared and stood on his tiptoes to try to match eye level with him. ] How did you get so tall?

[so maybe Luke's lost a little of his hate-on for book learning, but sometimes he still just needs to move.

This may be a problem if he's trying to combine both and wanders a touch too close without looking where he's going]

[Luke, who'd stood up straighter when Asch had turned (he'd previously been leaning on... something. Probably a fencepost or something like that), scratches the back of his head awkwardly.] Actually, I left the item bag in Sheridan when I got pulled here, so my sword got left there too. I've been trying to find a new one. [And a job, to make sure he can pay for it.]

[ Obviously Asch's training brings all the drecks to the yard.

It is rather unfortunate that Luke is passing by one of the dummies Asch is about to lunge for. Skewered replica in five... four... three... two...

...And Asch stops before he actually cuts Luke. But just barely. ] Hn. Do you make it a habit to wander aimlessly into people's training grounds, replica?

[oh what in holy - Luke drops his book, jumps back, and starts swearing, creatively and with hand gestures thrown in for good measure, and all this before he even gets a good look at Asch's face]

[ Ouch. That stung. It's been a while since he's been called "reject." He can handle "replica" and "dreck" (because he... honestly doesn't know what that means), but "reject" just really hurt. ]

Now, now... [ He retracts his sword arm, pointing his weapon downward and watching Luke with a raised eyebrow. ] Several years ago, I wouldn't have stopped. Count yourself lucky.
