[He's drawing something into the ground with the end of his staff, humming to himself as he does so. Every now and then, he pauses, tilting his head and letting his humming die away to assess his progress before he starts drawing again.]

*grins sheepishly at him.* Hi.. What're you drawing?

Sometimes I wonder if that's just our lot in life.

...I didn't mean for things to turn out like this... I... I don't want him to hurt, and I don't want him unhappy, but...

It's not your fault. And as much as we may want to, I don't think we can take care of them all.. At least, not to the same degree...

It is my fault. [looks over his shoulder at her with a sad smile] I can't love him back.

[fononfailure]

*laughs quietly and shakes her head.* You'd blame yourself for loving someone else? That seems rather silly to me. It makes as much sense as blaming him for loving you.

[hymnotic]

I just... wish there was some way to not hurt him with this.

[fononfailure]

...that's not always possible. You just have to do what's right for you.
