As a result of this fact, seeing Asch sitting at a table with that smug "I'm better than you" look of his shouldn't really take too many people by surprise. Oh, sure, the lack of any discernible agitation is probably a little disconcerting as is the presence of a deck of playing cards set upon the table within easy reach of his right hand. Of course, this Asch is a little different from most, missing anger notwithstanding; it isn't too hard to tell he is a fair bit older, somewhere within his early-to-mid twenties.

Regardless, he is Asch. And he? He is challenging you to a game of poker.

[ooc; Unlike swallowfury, Asch here is definitely not reset, so he retains any CR he had from the last time I was around a couple years back. Of course, he's not going to come out and just let you know who he is; he feels like being a bit of a jerk, so even if you do know him, he's going to leave you guessing. Especially. If you're a certain replica. Why? Because he can. And, no, he's not going to deal cards to kids. But he might go into papa mode on them.]

[ Hope he's fast enough: because once straddling one his legs, Luke grips the front of his shirt with her free hand and shoves HARD, using the leverage to direct a knee right at his groin. ]

[He stops her just as she makes initial contact but before she can really put pressure. "Nice try."]

[ Being completely immobile makes her want to spit, but damn if she can't do that either. All she can do is try to wrestle with him mentally. "Bastard!" ]

[That just makes him raise an eyebrow. "Stop for a minute. Breathe. Take in your surroundings."]

[ Huh? Why in the world was he lecturing her on their surroundings... Then there's a flash of realization across her face. "You..." Followed by her turning just as pink as before, though for a different reason this time. ]

[He's still a smug bastard. "Are you calm now?"]

[ When is he not? "I still wouldn't mind decking you a good one. Does that count as calm?" She gives a little mental wriggle; this isn't the most comfortable way to sit. ]

[He makes her move so her arms are around his neck and she's resting more comfortably on him. "Oh? So you're going to try to tell me you weren't planning a similar prank?"]

[ That gets a huff for being better but not what she was after. "Mine wasn't intended to be mean or make you mad. But now I don't feel like telling you about it." It's hard to snub someone when you're parked on them and unable to move, though she tries. ]

["In fairness, mine wasn't intended to make you made, either. You just happened to take it that way." He really only intended to tease you, Luke. Asch just has his own definition of teasing, clearly.

Regardless, he shifts his head just slightly to kiss at the corner of her mouth.]

[ "How did you think I'd react to hearing you considered pawning your ring?" In retrospect, it's obvious that was his goal the entire time, but she's still too skeeved to admit flipping out over a joke. And not being able to move doesn't mean she can't avoid looking at him. Ignoring you~ ]

["Pretty much exactly the way you did. Thanks for the entertainment."]

[ Oh boy. Off she goes again. "What?! Is that all you keep me around for, your own amusement?! Do you think I'm just a toy of yours?!" ]

["Maybe more like a pet."]

[ aksjdf-- "YOU'RE WORSE THAN JADE, YOU ASS! At least he lets Dist know he's not wanted!" ]

[Okay, this time he actually does laugh a little.]

[ After all that bitching, she runs out of steam (for now) and, well, doesn't go anywhere since he's still in control. "Asch, I swear..." ]

[He closes his eyes, setting her free again with a noncommittal hum in her head.]

[ She fwumps into his chest face-first and mumbles something like 'thank you' into the fabric. "You're lucky you've got me. I don't see how anyone else could put up with you." ]

[There's a brief moment where he seems to freeze, and if Luke had been looking at his face, she would have seen his eyes grow distant and perhaps even empty for the duration.]

[But the moment passes and he lets out the breath he'd held at hearing those words.

"Maybe I am. But you should realize the reverse is also true."]

[ It's because she misses fleeting moments like these that she thinks Asch is always stoic. She could feel the pause, but there's no sign of tension by the time she sits up and fixes him with a curious stare.

"...I know. That's why I don't want anyone else. Why I've kept you close even during your absence." ]

[There is another quizzical hum in Luke's head, but Asch does not respond beyond that. He won't say it, but the 'I don't see how anyone else could put up with you' kind of touched on his old insecurities and everything he went through in the past.]

[ Well somebody's too dense to figure that out on her own, Asch. But nor will Luke push for an explanation if he doesn't want to go into it. Instead, she offers a slight, devious playful smile. "Aren't you the least bit curious where my ring is?" ]

[Asch is silent for a bit before... "I figure, if I wait long enough, you'll end up explaining all on your own, anyway."]
