As a result of this fact, seeing Asch sitting at a table with that smug "I'm better than you" look of his shouldn't really take too many people by surprise. Oh, sure, the lack of any discernible agitation is probably a little disconcerting as is the presence of a deck of playing cards set upon the table within easy reach of his right hand. Of course, this Asch is a little different from most, missing anger notwithstanding; it isn't too hard to tell he is a fair bit older, somewhere within his early-to-mid twenties.

Regardless, he is Asch. And he? He is challenging you to a game of poker.

[ooc; Unlike swallowfury, Asch here is definitely not reset, so he retains any CR he had from the last time I was around a couple years back. Of course, he's not going to come out and just let you know who he is; he feels like being a bit of a jerk, so even if you do know him, he's going to leave you guessing. Especially. If you're a certain replica. Why? Because he can. And, no, he's not going to deal cards to kids. But he might go into papa mode on them.]

[ There's something about that smile that tries Luke's already short patience. Who was he to think himself better than others? So she drops into the chair opposite Asch, jaw set and glaring daggers that would make Guy wince.

[Oh, this as going to be priceless. Asch's smirk grew at Luke's attempt at a glare. Come on, replica, do you really think that's going to scare me? He almost lets out a small snort as he picks up the cards to shuffle them.]

[ Luke figures that so long as Asch doesn't cheat like certain equally smug colonels, she should stand half a chance. Poker was a simple game of matching the right cards, right? Tempting as it is, Luke refrains from kicking him under the table and instead settles for slamming both palms down. ]

[ One of these days she's going to wipe that snide grin right off his face. Somehow. She'd make it her mission in life if that's what it took. Her eyes dart from the cards to Asch, hoping to catch a glimpse of reaction. If he scowled, it would be a sure sign that his hand sucked. ]

[Asch moves her cards to the side before dealing three new ones to her; he then looks at his own hand again before dropping two onto Luke's three and drawing two fresh cards.

Whether he got something useful or not is even harder to tell. There isn't so much as a muscle twitch on his face.]

Dist stares around for a moment, trying to gather if he's been sent home from that blasted place he was trapped in, but...no. He still has his wings. Yes, wings. Two small, feathery wings - black with the hot pink swirls of his second coat - are tucked neatly behind his back. Once he recognizes his surroundings, he grunts irritably and--...hello there, poker table.

...Posing a challenge, are you? I never thought you to be the gambling type, Asch. And I assumed you were also underage. [Dist looks over the table, the cards, and hums, before taking a seat. Poker was never his game, but living alongside that idiot and his swine...he picked up a few things.] What are you wagering, I wonder? Or is this purely for amusement?

[This was definitely not what he was expecting. And he had thought his previous time in this place had taught him to stop being surprised by anything but... damn if those wings don't almost make him laugh. Oh, Dist, flamboyant to the last detail.]

It's been quite some time since I've been of age, Reaper. [He pauses then, watching Dist as he seats himself.] As for a wager, well, if you insist. It's not like gald means all that much here, though. It would be symbolic at best.

[SEETHE. Dist chews on his bottom lip as his wings flick irritably, though he does give Asch a long glance after a moment. ...Huh. He does look older, if only a little. He looked like he just came of age a few years ago. Meaning he survived the Big Bang.

I'm afraid I have no gald to wager regardless. You see, the place where I was prior is much like this one - where items come free of charge. However, money never meant much to me, you see. ...Information, on the other hand, I find rather valuable. [He seems to consider this for a few moments before leaning one elbow onto the table and resting his chin on his fist.] Alright. But nothing too in-depth.

[In truth, it probably wasn't a horrible idea to let someone take a look; he never did bother to get himself checked out after everything. And really, ego and over-the-top personality aside, Asch does have to admit Dist does know what he's doing. Even if he'll never admit it out loud.]

Asch, meanwhile, glances at his own cards before lining them into a small pile again, also keeping his expression impassive; with the bottom card facing himself, he taps a corner of the five-card pile on the table.]

[Far be it for any Luke to turn down a challenge, even this Luke, who should know better. Still he paused when he saw the seemingly older Asch parked there with a poker table and a deck of cards, raising the eyebrow nearest to his mask. He really didn't know how to take this, but he sat down regardless.]

I am unfamiliar with this sort of gambling. Care to explain?

[Asch glances up at him before nodding slightly. It's not really his style to cheat or to use a cheap advantage, so he starts shifting through the cards, picking a few out and as he goes.] Alright, a basic run-down on the rules, then. You're dealt five cards; with these, you have to try to make certain hands. Each player then gets a chance to exchange some or all of those cards with new ones - you either stay, keeping your hand, or hit, discarding as many cards as necessary to replace. The idea, of course, is that you keep whichever cards look like they're going to lead you to a winning hand: multiples, cards of the same suit, any set of cards that count in order.

Once each player has finished, you either fold - forfeiting the round - if you haven't managed to make a combo or you show your hand; highest hand wins.

[He pauses.] Of course, there are other reasons to fold, but that relies heavily on reading your opponent's expression. For example, if you notice your opponent's expression changes positively, he likely has a good hand. And, when your betting, if your opponent's face falls slightly, he probably doesn't have anything worthwhile; it's usually a good idea to raise your bet. Between dealing and exchange as well as between exchange and showing your hands, players first place bets and then raise them - you either call and meet the bet or you can fold if you feel the bet is raising too high for your confidence in your hand.

[He stops again, laying four cards out on the table: two threes and two tens.] The lowest winning hand is two pair. It's any combination where you have two pairs of two equal cards. If it turns out everyone has this type of hand, the one with the highest pairs wins; if two players have the exact same pairs, the one with the higher value on his fifth card is the winner. Aces are high; they'll beat every other card. There is one exception, though. We'll get to it.

[He doesn't show it, but Asch is a little amused at seeing a Luke who can actually mask his expressions. Since most Lukes are easier to read than a picture book.]
